This is the mechanical removal of plugs from your lawn. Eight to ten plugs per square foot are pulled and deposited on top of the turf, breaking up over one to two weeks. This important maintenance practice encourages deeper root growth and helps maintain thatch levels in the lawn. 

It is important to use a machine that actually pulls a core of soil out of the ground rather than simply putting a hole in the ground.  This procedure is best done in the early fall in conjunction with an application of fertilizer.  This will help get nutrients to the root zone of your lawn.
